Fun Facts on Fred

Fred has a best friend, we call it the halogen light in our living room. It cracks us up how entranced he is by it - he'll stop doing whatever it is he is doing, cooing, fussing, feeding, pooping, if he catches a glimpse of the light. The best is when he tries to focus and goes cross eyed. We also have a large assortment of nicknames for our little boy, for instance: Frederick the Mouse when he squeaks and whimpers while feeding or dreaming, Fred the Bear when he tries to feed in the most ferocious manner and both mom and dad worry for mom's bodily safety, Frederico when we are feeling international, Fredikins when he looks like a mischevious elf like creature, Squirmy which was his prenatal name but now used as he wriggles around avoiding diaper changes or at bed time when he comes alive to play, Frediccuni when he is getting close to sleep or is asleep and goes limp like a noodle, and of course Freddie or Freddy? We can't decide on this spelling and the family seems to be split. I think we shall have a caucus to decide.

Baby Hazing

So yesterday had to return to work, to all our horror as we had grown quiet accustomed to our little trio shut out from the outside world all cozy in our little cottage of a house. No need for TV as Fred is more than entertaining. We knew this would be an adjustment, we knew that mama may shed a tear or two, but this sneaky little baby had a trick hidden up its sleeve. Due to long car rides and waiting in the doctors office (which by the way we got a great report of bulking this baby up to 9lbs 2oz) Fred got a little longer shut eye than what we normally have at home. He took the opportunity to try and play on my doubts of being able to take care of him alone. It was as if he said, "Try this on for size lady! You think you can be a mom?" And decided to test my mettle by staying up and being wide awake from 1:00am till about 4:30am. Mom was in tears by 4:00am, and it took dad a mere 20 minutes once he awoke to mom's sobbing to settle the little bundle down and off to sleep. Who knew babies could be so cruel? I'm happy to say however that we are back on track today... its amazing how functional you can be with 4 hours in a row of sleep!

The Men in Fred's Life

Fred has got so many wonderful male role-models in his life and they all have been here to hold, hug, and love him in these early days. Is there anything more sweet then a grown man holding and cuddling an baby? I think not! We are so blessed that Fred has been able to have time with his Great Grandpa Roger! He is also lucky that his Uncle Jeff took a few hours break from trying to win the White House in order to come get some snuggle time. It will be fun to see what his Granddads teach him as he grows.

So many people to meet...

Fred's first hours were filled with meeting loving family members and friends... including mom! Because of the surgery, I had to go into the recovery room, so I didn't get to meet my baby boy until 3 hours after he was born - and then we all tried to sleep.

Labor is a Ball!

Ok, well not really but I did give it a shot before the c-section was needed. Everyone was anxiously awaiting to see who was coming...

Frederick Harry Worst came roaring into the world at 6:16pm! He weighed 8lbs. 12oz. and 22 inches long. He was just picture perfect, healthy, and of course to me the most beautiful baby in the world! Now if only we knew how to do the parent thing, a drama to be continued.
